The footnote for 6:2 can be more accurate and detailed, I know a lot of the time clay is seen as a metaphor for ground or earth, but I think taking it both as a metaphor and literally is how it was intended especially as new information becomes clear. When it is said Allah's Throne was upon water we can assume all elements up until Oxygen (H2O) were in existence before the Heavens and Earth. In human DNA all these elements (Nitrogen, Hydrogen, Carbon, Oxygen) exist at the same time as water, except one element which is Phosphorus. Human DNA could have already been created before the Heavens and Earth, except Phosphorus is the last piece that is missing. Clay is made of Silica (Silicon Dioxide) and Alumina (Aluminium Oxide), when you look at the periodic table, Phosphorus(15) comes immediately after Aluminium(13) and Silicon(14). I also think it is incredibly poetic that the Phosphate Group in DNA and RNA is described as following: "In nucleic acids like DNA and RNA, the phosphate group is a component of the nucleotide monomer that forms the molecule's backbone". Phosphorus is the backbone of our DNA, giving it structural support, and directly follows the existence of clay. This also has a nice symmetry in the word soul is also used metaphorically and literally for a human as a whole and the human soul, and so Phosphorus is also metaphorically the backbone of a human and literally the backbone of human DNA.
