Highlighting defeats the purpose of tajweed coloring
Y
Youssef Shahin
When listening to recitation the highlighted word is all the same color. Which doesn't allow the learner to see the tajweed colors and associate them with the pronunciations.
Please change the way you highlight, maybe have it as an underlining of the word being recited or a background color change.
Something that will still keep the tajweed colors visible.

show the colors of the tajweed also when the word is being highlighted. Its great you have the tajweed color font, maa shaa'a l-Laah. Baaraka l-Laahu feekum. The only thing is that it does not show the colors when the word is being highlighted (when the recitor is on that word). Would be very useful if you could do something about that.

Suggestion to improve Tajweed display during recitation
Marewan Wakrim
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,
First of all, may Allah reward you for your outstanding work on Quran.com. The platform is smooth, user-friendly, and extremely beneficial—jazakum Allahu khayran.
I would like to share a small suggestion regarding the “Tajweed” font option. When this font is enabled, the letters are beautifully color-coded to indicate the rules of tajweed, which is very helpful for learners. However, during audio playback, the current word highlighting removes these tajweed colors, making it impossible to see the rules applied to the word being recited.
A possible improvement would be to keep the tajweed colors visible during recitation, perhaps by replacing the current highlight effect with a different visual cue—such as an underline or a soft outline—that doesn’t override the tajweed coloring.
Thank you again for your efforts. May Allah bless and accept your work.
Wa assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.

Don't highlight words in tajweed mode
Sufyan Tootla
Assalaam wa alaikum! I want to use tajweed mode to recite better, but when listening to recitations, the entire word gets highlights on the website. This means I can't see the color coding until they are done reciting that part. Is it possible to make it a different kind of outline for tajweed mode? Or make it an option to remove highlighting? Jazakhallah khair.
Bilal
I came to suggest the same. If we can just have a toggle to remove or keep the highlighting, that would be enough because if we're keeping up with reading tajweed, then we don't need a highlight at all.

Tajweed Colors and Individual Pronunciation of Words Disappeared
Maria Adams
- Windows 11
- Google Chrome
- Two screenshots attached for reference.
4a. Hit play on any ayah and follow along with the reciter.
4b. Go to Settings. Under Font, pick Tajweed. Then, scroll down to Word by Word section and the Recitation button is currently unavailable.
Assalamu Alaikum. I noticed two issues. The first issue can be seen when following along with the reciter. The words get colored in so we see a visual placement. However, in the Tajweed setting, the color coded rules get completely colored in, so if you are a novice like myself, and are following along, it's difficult to know which Tajweed rule is being applied because the color coded rules disappear whenever the follow along font color gets applied. If I may make a suggestion, I would keep the Tajweed color rules with the placement marker. In other words, the words in black can be highlighted but the Tajweed letters/rules can keep their different colors. The second bug happens whenever I click on a word to hear its proper pronunciation. Even though the transliteration is available, I still like to hear individual words to make sure I am pronouncing correctly. It stopped working about two weeks ago. I can no longer hear any of the individual words whenever I click on them. Please bring this feature back, as it was a great feature that helped with my reading and pronunciation. Thank you for your time and attention!

Walaikum assalam wa rehmatullahi wa barakatahu,
Regarding the Tajweed color of an active word getting highlighted to a single green color. This is how it is designed.
Due to the complexity of the advanced technology used to color Tajweed within the font file, it is difficult to highlight just the black portion of the word perfectly. However, we may look into a workaround and highlight the background of the word instead. Maybe the team can look into it further.
Bilal
Ayman Siddiqui Having a toggle to turn the existing highlighting on/off is, insha'Allah, an easy workaround. No need to build new functionality.
Ayman Siddiqui
Bilal there is actually a simple CSS code to just change the black color of the text, but it won't be across all browsers (especially Firefox on Mac and iOS devices, which is using different format/tech of the same font.)
The Tajweed fonts works like a group of SVG images, but they are inside font file and cannot be manipulated from outside the font, except using few methods like Css filter (currently used on Quran.com) and color override for specific base color of the Color fonts.
//We have implemented a highlighted background on QuranWBW.com and it looks much better. Maybe Quran.com can have a similar idea. Maybe a torch light effect as seen on Tarteel App.
