I’ve always had an issue with the word We, Ourselves, and Our when Allah is talking to Himself in the singular. I understand it is out of respect but modern English isn’t really used this way for at least the last 500 years from old times. This is really horrible for all English translations. The intentions are good but the results couldn’t be worse. Children have a hard time keeping Taqwa and me as a 40+ year old Muslim, I always cringe at seeing this. Then why can’t we talk about Allah as Themselves, Their, They, or Them out of respect or honor? Because it doesn’t make sense. I’m sorry but it’s so simple and ridiculous at the same time for all English translations. In fact, in modern English, using I or My has greater weight as it imposes power in the singular. Example, they defeated Rome vs. he defeated Rome as a single person implying singular superiority over needing help as a group. It’s simply too much academic analysis paralyzing modern concepts and intellectual consumption for the population that has not spoken this way since Old English died over 500 years ago. In fact, if you research, you’ll see that the Quran in English was originally translated to match the Bible and look where it got them. It implies shirk although the intention is masculine respect, but people aren’t born to think this way in Modern English. This is why less people read it than they should. Scholars will mostly disagree because they think academically but not human based or psychologically. This has always bothered me since childhood for decades.
